Are you into bushwalking? A walk through Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park on the North side of Currimundi Lake is a must whilst holidaying in Caloundra.
The beauty of this walk is that not many people are aware of it, so you will find yourself pretty much alone on this bushwalking trail where you will be able to enjoy the sounds of birds chirping and the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the nearby beach.
There are two walking tracks:
- Heath track 1.4km return, aptly named after the Wallum Heathlands plant communities. This track is especially beautiful in the late winter and spring months when the heathland wildflowers are in bloom.
- Beach access track 2km return. This track follows the heath circuit track before branching off through a Wattle and Tea-Tree thicket. It meanders over several dunes where rainforest plants form a low, dense canopy above the track. There are scenic views south to Caloundra and south-east to Moreton Island.
The tracks are well mapped, with signage along the way explaining the native flora and fauna you may encounter on your walk.
Picnic facilities are provided in the adjoining Crummunda Park where facilities include picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and a viewing platform/canoe launching area.
